It’s All About Magic 💫

Let’s Create Some

I love Magic. Magick. Magik. All forms of it. All stories about it. All songs too!

During the Holiday Season, we talk about the Magic of gift-giving. The Magic of Believing. The Magic of Joy and Miracles and Beauty and Health and Well Wishes.

And, I’m here, saying Magic is a year-round thing.

That’s worth repeating… Magic is a year-round thing.

It’s with us all the time. It’s IN each of us.

So let’s remember to Tune in. Turn on. And, Turn It Up our Magic. It’s in every one of us.

Happy December from us all at DeborahLeeAnn.com and Authentic Leadership Academy and Consulting!

Movement for Good

#MEtoo.

It’s become so common that no one is surprised anymore. We all just nod our heads in some type of secret solidarity.

Yet, why are we sharing from a place of shame? Or Guilt? Or Embarrassment? Or, even, with a sense of thinking we are responsible, in some awful way?

It’s time to stop the avoiding and clean up the shame, and start healing.

This open door will never swing shut again. More and more sexual assaults, inappropriate behavior, rapes kept under wraps are now seeing the light of day. The media posts new stories daily and we aren’t even bothering to read them. (Or, maybe that’s me, this is not new!)

What if…

What if we took this new-found solidarity, commonality across all women of different cultures, colors and class, and used it to fuel our Light?

What would happen if we were sharing with glee something beautiful that happened from sharing and healing to becoming more empowered, conscious and ready to tell our truth?

I’d love to discover what could happen when we realized that this totally inappropriate treatment we’ve all received was just a catalyst for igniting our realization of our value, our worth, our strength?

As we glue together the pieces where we previously thought we were broken, we heal the parts and are even more beautiful, more complex and more resilient.

The term Wabi-Sabi applies here…the Japanese believe in the beauty of impermanence and imperfection. When a piece of art or pottery is broken, they often fill the cracks with gold. Creating a more beautiful piece and honoring the imperfection.

Let’s shift into this type of #MEtoo. Let’s shift into the beauty of what we are now from the healing, growing and expansion into a more stunning piece of art? What if we shined our light through those cracks?

Wake Up White Women

What to say?

What to do?

How to be with People of Color?

I’m stuck. Truly. For one who is rarely short on words, I’m a bag of emotions.

And, not sure if I want to blame it on the mixed messages of our country’s leaders or Mercury Retrograde or centuries of history where white privilege has been the norm or the fact that my antennae are hyper focused on receiving messages that are beyond and out of alignment with what I see with my eyes…

Whiteness. White privilege. White women. White culture. We are so IN in, it’s hard to imagine NOT being in it. Yet we share this world, this country, our communities, our neighborhoods, sometimes even our families with those who do not identify as white.

Waking up is painful. It’s easier to go back to sleep. Yet, we can’t sleep this nightmare away. It’s our responsibility to at least acknowledge this isn’t right. It can’t continue. I disagree. This feels wrong.

And I am not just talking about the horrific events last weekend and the lack of accountability by our top government officials to denounce it in a way, apologize in a way, unify in a way, that I had hoped he would.

I am speaking of all ways. Always. Speaking up. Standing up. Moving beyond our fear. Showing up. Not agreeing. Or, not standing by in silence.

No more hiding. Leaders do not hide. They do their work. They SHINE their most brilliantly when the times get dark.

And, I’m learning, that SHINING is not always easy. Or pretty!

Listen in and let me know what resonates. What doesn’t? It’s time to practice opening up and sharing in a more vulnerable way. I’d love to witness that from you.

Science and Spirituality

Of our Eclipse Season

This is a big month. For someone who is not oriented to the stars and planets and patterns they play out, it’s still important to note that these are extraordinary circumstances.

We are all effected by the planetary systems, our moon and sun in particular.

AND, when they cross over each other in their paths? That’s a big deal.

It’s rare to have this total solar eclipse be visible from the US. And, really fun that the path crosses right through our area!

Typically, this time can be considered a time when all brightness and shadows become one. A collapsing of dualities.

We are not all Light. Nor are we all Dark. This union of them is such a scientific marvel and a beautiful spiritual model for us as well.

Since we have so much chaos surrounding us, and even more that will be revealed during the coming month, it’s another call for Authenticity. Leadership with Authenticity is based on Integrity, rooted in Self-Awareness, a conscious model of both connection with others and a deep connection within.

Let’s dive in and see where this week’s podcast takes us. How fun that the SHINE Principle continues to grow and unfold for both mySelf and my community… it’s even being modeled by the heavens above us!

Push/Pull

The Growing Pains of Showing Up Authentically

We are halfway through 2017. Yikes! (says a part of me)

When reflecting on the first 6 months of this year, I had lots to celebrate. Lots of lessons learned too. And, it pushed me into a growth cycle of wanting to be farther along than my “results” are showing.

So, I got into a fast-paced mode. And, all the Up-leveling is taking its toll.

It’s part of growth and expansion, what we are all experiencing whether we like it or not.

Not only have I began a new iteration of my work – SHINE – I’ve begun a bed & breakfast business. And committed to speaking more. And expanding my consulting services. And publishing a new website.

All in the past month. Whew!

It’s not anything new for most of us entrepreneurs who are constantly evolving and expanding.

Yet, too much too quickly brings about tell-tale results for me.

Scattered-ness. Lack of preparation for a meeting with a potential collaborator. Stubbing my toe on a coffee table (OUCH) and then a mini-crisis with family. Needing to rearrange my day to fit in some extra TLC for my stepdad who is caring for my mother with Alzheimer’s. A technology mess of backup drive not working and a new malware showing up!

And that’s how my expansion tends to show up for me. A fast and furious growth spurt that ends up with physical, emotional and mental anguish.

And, thank you for the lesson again, the opportunity to recognize that slowing down is being called for. Less DOing, more BEing.

That was last week’s show but bears repeating. Slowing down allows us to grow faster.

And, just like my daughter when she was having a growth spurt, rubbing the sore shins or taking a bath or going to bed earlier are all ways to get to the next level.

SHINING and showing up takes more than courage and confidence. It takes compassion. The full recognition that we are human beings who will make mistakes, have accidents and want to re-do stuff. It takes letting go of perfection. AND, the kindness and compassion to allow for the process to unfold. For our SHINING Self to unfold. For our Vision, Value and Voice to ripple out more clearly and consciously than ever before. And to keep growing and shifting and evolving, just as we do.

We are a beautiful work in progress. Art being (re)created each and every day.

How are you showing up?

We All Can Do It, So Why Don’t We?

Do you SHINE? If you do, how do you feel when you SHINE?
If you don’t, are you afraid to SHINE? Feeling awkward or you’ll be viewed as a fraud or inauthentic? Or bragging and self-centered?

SHINE is a new way of BEing in the world. For me at least. It’s part of the journey I’ve been on and have not been able to fully articulate until now.

A month ago I shared this concept with a room full of women entrepreneurs. The response was a resounding “Yes!” and I believe I hit a chord with everyone in the room.

SHINE is the acronym for Self-Awareness, Holistic Health, Integrity, No limits, and Equanimity and Environment. This fully explains the scope of workshops and retreats and consulting all focused on Leadership Development.

AND…

What happens on the days when SHINing is NOT what you want to do?

Tune in, let’s explore this. It’s up for me today and how can we move from unSHINE to SunSHINE when it feels like that’s the last thing we want to do?

I’ll see if I can shift this less than sun-shiny funk I’m in …or not! It might just be where I am today or there might be a way to get out of it.

No promises. Here goes!
